BCN 24hour Challenge

INFORMATION from BCNS:

"The BCNS Challenge will take place on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th June 2022, starting at 8am on Friday and finishing at 2pm on Saurday  The event is open to everyone with a boat licensed for use on Canal and River Trust canals.  Historic working boats and pairs are especially welcome.
We also welcome walking teams, so if you don’t have a boat but want to explore the BCN please feel free to join us.

Boats may start at any point on the BCN but should finish at this year’s designated finish point. This will be Withymoor Island on the Dudley canal.  There will be moorings reserved for the finish of the event.

Participants may navigate for as long as they like during the 30 hour period up to a maximum of 24 hours. The required 6 hour break should be taken in one go, but may be taken at any time in the 30 hours. If problems prevent you taking the whole break at once please explain the reason on the cruise log.

The winner will be the entry which amasses the greatest number of points during the Challenge.
Bonus points will be awarded for navigating lesser used waterways and points will be awarded for correctly answered questions at certain places. Photographic evidence will be required to score points at designated locations

All entries will receive a commemorative plaque and the winning entry will also receive an award.
Additional plaques will be available for crew members for £5.00 each. Please order these on the entry form.

There will be an entry fee of £20 per boat which includes a commemorative plaque.
The entry fee for working boats or pairs will also be £20.
Entries must be received by Friday 6th May.

The entry fee will include 12 months membership of the BCNS for those entrants who have never been members of the Society.  (Applies to team leader only)

Once your application is received you will be sent the Information and Rules document together with a route Planner.

We want to try and publish the results on Saturday evening while everyone is still gathered together.
To achieve this we will need the results from crews as quickly as possible, and preferably electronically. We are hoping crews will have access either to a laptop on board that can utilize an excel spreadsheet, or access to a document hosted on the internet.

We also aim to send out the questions and cruise log by email late on Friday evening or early Saturday morning. If you won’t have internet access on board please request paper copies of the documents on the form.

We would like to thank Withymoor Island Trust for offering to host the finish.
They have advised they have water, elsan, pumpout and Calor gas available.
They will also have a bar open all weekend and food available.
